Camden Maine Birth Photography
I was honored to have been given the opportunity to photograph Faith and Sam as they worked to welcome their beautiful son, Lincoln, earthside. Being able to provide Camden Maine Birth Photography is so rewarding to witness. Home birth is always so special to me because I was a home birth baby myself! I was also excited because this meant I got to work alongside Midwife Dani Scanlon again! She is from Morningstar Midwifery in Belfast, Maine. Dani has a very gentle guiding way of working with expecting and birthing families. She is calm and gentle when she supports and is so incredibly knowledgeable about all things birth. Faith and Sam had welcomed their first son, Theodore, at a birth center 6 years ago, however, Sam was unable to attend due to being away on active duty. So this birth experience was actually Sam’s first.
As I made my way out to Camden to document the birth of the newest addition to their family, I couldn’t help but feel so grateful that I was once again able to photograph a birth after almost a year of mostly no work. It was a Friday morning and it was snowing! As I arrived, Faith was having regular contractions every 5 minutes and she was doing great working through each one as they came and went. Sam was working on filing the birth tub between contractions. Soon after arriving, Dani arrived and began assessing and monitoring. Her backup midwife, Madrona also arrived shortly after. Faith also hired a doula, Leah who supported the two of them through the different stages and needs of her labor. Leah was a great advocate for the two! Faith decided to labor in the birth tub for a while, trying different positions. Sam stayed by her side faithfully, supporting her with love and care. Faith needed a new surrounding so she was supported out of the tub and into her bedroom where she began to crown. As the baby’s head emerged, we saw how he was born en caul in his sack still! This was the first birth I photographed that was en caul! Before we knew it, without further ado, he was here! He came out screaming and as healthy as can be! Faith was a rockstar and so was Sam!! After sharing the most beautiful moments together as they met their son, Sam called a few family members and Faith examined her placenta! Faith cut her own cord and Leah bagged it up and put it in the freezer to be buried at a later time! This home birth could not have gone any better if you asked me! Everyone was safe, and happy and healthy! It was a real treasure to witness and document. Lincoln did not have a name for a few days until after his big brother met him! Welcome to the world Lincoln!
